SJGA Conditions of Competition

USGA Rules of Golf Apply & Govern all Play

Format, Course Conditions, Tees, & Local Rules

Will be addressed on your handout, official scorecard and/or at the staging area orientation, immediately before the start of competition.

Scorecards must be turned in immediately following play. Please place completed scorecard with 2 signatures in the SJGA Scorecard Box if the Tournament Director is busy scoring. CHECK YOUR SCORECARD. Once you have placed your card in the box, you are deemed to have left the scoring area and no changes will be allowed.

Rule 3-3. Doubt as to Procedure

In stroke play, if a competitor is doubtful of his/her rights or the correct procedure during the play of a hole, he/she may, without penalty, complete the hole with two balls. You must announce the ball and put an asterisk next to the score that you want to count if the rules will allow. If you score the same with both balls, you must still announce to the Committee that you invoked Rule 3-3.

Rule 6-7. Undue Delay; Slow Play

The player must play without undue delay and in accordance with any pace of play guidelines that the Committee may establish. We value our relationship and return visit to each host facility. You may invoke ‘Ready Golf’ if a player in your group is struggling with their play. Penalty for Undue Delay/Slow Play: 2 Stroke Penalty.

Inclement Weather & Life Threatening Conditions.

Rain:  Play will continue in light & moderate rain.
Thunder, Lightening, and Severe Conditions: Mark the position of your ball with a tee and immediately return to the clubhouse for a delay, postponement, or cancellation decision.

Distance Measuring Devices

A player may obtain distance information by using a device that measures distance only. However using a distance-measuring device that is designed to gauge or measure other conditions that might affect his/her play (e.g., gradient, wind-speed, temperature, etc.), is in breach of Rule 14-3, regardless of whether any such additional functions are actually used.
