JUNIOR GOLF TOURNAMENT
Monday, August 30th, the South Jersey Golf Association
will be sponsoring its first SJGA Junior Amateur Championship at one of our
member courses, The Links. Junior Golf is a major part of our mission and
annually we will now be partnering with another established organization to
accomplish our goal. This year, we've chosen the
Junior Golfers' Association of America, non-profit 501c3 and it will be
handling the tournament organization/management of this event.
All junior players from any of our SJGA member clubs may
enter. Players must list their Ghin number/handicap index or average score for
pairing purposes. The cost is $50.00
for the 18-hole Divisions and $40.00 for the 9-hole Beginner/Intermediate
Divisions. Only
trophies and medals will be presented
as junior players must maintain amateur status. There will be up to:
Five 18-hole
Intermediate/Advanced Divisions (Tee-times
start at 12:30pm and may range until 3pm+/-): 3 for Boys:
(Ages 12 and under) (13-15) 16-19*) 2 for Girls:
(Ages 14 and under) (15-19*) Six 9-hole Beginner/Intermediate
Divisions: 3
Girls/3 Boys (Ages 6-9) (10-13) (14 to 19*)
*Junior golfers (16-19) must be in high school or
are 2010 high school graduates and have not attended college prior to the
tournament date.
Juniors from
SJGA member courses and/or relatives of a SJGA member, must pay the entry fee
only and are not required to be part of any organization with which we
partner to hold this tournament.
We are eager to grow this event which will now be held annually. As you
are aware, SJGA gives scholarships to graduating seniors from the counties which
make up southern Jersey. Monies which SJGA raises from its share of this event
will be used solely to support its junior golf program. Please assist us in our
efforts by sharing this information with other junior players and their parents.
Presently, SJGA has 530+ members
who play actively. This is an opportunity for their children, grandchildren,
nephews and nieces to have the opportunity to represent their clubs and compete
for the SJGA Junior Amateur Championship. If you have further questions
regarding our Junior Golf initiatives, please call our SJGA office at (609)
760-7779. For information regarding the specifics of this tournament, including
entries-times, etc. call Tournament Director John Petronis, PGA at (609)
788-4654. T-times will be posted at
www.juniorgolfers.net. We thank you for assisting us in
this new initiative to promote the game of golf for junior players.
