- How can I get a USGA Handicap?
An official USGA Handicap may be issued by any club or golf course that is
licensed by the USGA.
Do I need a handicap to enter SJGA competitions?
Yes, it is a condition of SJGA competitions that you have a valid handicap
index.
Do I need to post every score?
Yes. The USGA Handicap System requires all eligible scores that a golfer may make be included in his or her permanent score record. If a score is not made
on a course that is in an active season or the Course Rating and Slope cannot be provided, then the score in question cannot be included. In essence there are no options. A score must be posted if it meets eligibility.
Where is my Handicap calculated if I belong to more than one club?
If both clubs use the same handicap service a player would register as a
multi-member. If clubs use different services then all scores must be posted at
both clubs, using the same play date, assuring that the calculated handicap
index will be the same.
Are Rounds Played With Non-Conforming Balls or Equipment Acceptable for Handicap Posting?
No. The SJGA endorses the USGA position on Non-Conforming Balls and Equipment. Any player using such equipment in SJGA events shall be disqualified.
How Can I Find Out if My Golf Balls and/or Equipment Conform to USGA Standards?
The USGA regularly updates their list of conforming balls and equipment. This information can be found on the USGA Website
at: http://www.usga.org/press/list_of_clubs.html. The list is updated weekly.
