As a sophomore, Jimmy started out as an unknown player who worked hard in the first week practice to show me his desire and dedication to be a good player and a student of golf. His commitment in golf didn’t stop throughout the first year. He would help in organizing extra work and drills for his teammates as well. His major goal was to play #1 for the golf team. The amount of improvement required to move up the ladder was difficult.

Jimmy is a three year Varsity letter winner and was selected Captain for the past two years. “

 Essay Excerpt:

Mental toughness is the key to playing good golf. Throughout the years I have realized that if your head is not in the shot and concentrated on the shot, you will not hit the ball as well and shoot good scores. One instance where my mental toughness helped me to play better was a tournament when I was a sophomore. I was playing in the annual Carl Arena Golf Tournament with my school when I posted a ten on my second hole of play. I did not think I was ever so mad on the golf course before that. I thought my round was over at first. I came up to the next tee box thinking I could not shoot a good score now. This attitude actually made me concentrate more on my shot than anything else. I hit a great shot off the tee to a par three and birdied it. Not only did this give me confidence but adrenaline as well. I ended up going two under from then on and came in within the top five. This was my greatest achievement as a player so far as overcoming this obstacle and being able to recover. Now, looking back, this was a major stepping-stone to my mental outlook of the game. “Golf is a game that is played on a five-inch course - the distance between your ears.

James will be attending Coastal Carolina University where he has been admitted to the Professional Golf Management Program
