“Every now and then a student
comes along whom one will remember throughout one’s career as the
best example of academic talent, athletic prowess and personal
character. Joanna Coe is such a person. I am especially impressed
with her dedication and determination. Some peopleHave the talent,
but they lack motivation. Some people have the heart, but they lack
the talent. Joanna Coe has the talent and the drive to achieve any
goal she chooses.” Guidance Counselor

“Joanna performed at such a
high level as a debater because of her drive to practice, practice,
practice until she was satisfied that she was meeting her potential.
Such an advanced work ethic is something rare indeed, especiallyfor
a young person that has such abundant natural gifts. Whereas most
talented student t- athletes would be content to ride their talent
to marginal successes, Joanna consistently seeks more from herself.”

“Joanna will receive the rare
honor of becoming captain of the 2007 Oakcrest High School Men’s
Golf Team, an honor she richly deserves.
First, her abilities as a golfer are far superior to other female
members in our golf program. Secondly, Joanna has earned the respect
of her male teammates because her character and dedication to the
team. More importantly, Joanna is recognized by her teammates as an
outstandingproblem solver and decision maker. Even as a freshman
playing on a men’s varsity team, Joanna’s choices were correct,
thoughtful and always with her teammates at the forefront of her
considerations; for Joanna, decisions are always with the good of
the order in mind and are designed to promote a team ‘esprit de
corps.” She is a shining example of “how a leader should act.”

Essay Excerpt:
“Personally, I believe that
18 would be an appropriate age that an amateur golfer should be able
to compete in tournaments for prize money and sponsorships. I heard
first-hand from, perhaps, one of the best female golfers ever in the
United States that current junior and amateur players should enjoy
and take their time to turn professional. If a golfer with as much
skill and competitive spirit such as Carol Semple Thompson chose to
remain an amateur throughout her entire life, why wouldn’t that joy
and satisfaction be enough for the talented young golfers to wait
until their 18th birthday?”
Joanna will be attending Rollins
College in the fall.
